I tell you, I’m having such a great experience working with couples recently. This time it’s James and Drew from North Carolina who agreed to pose for some urbex work in the Motor City.
I think they had kinda tinkered with urban ruins before, but Detroit was full immersion!
Most of my duo models have been complete strangers, yet they have created amazing bonds that project familiarity.
Drew and James are a true couple who live together, so there was no improvisation of their affection and comfort. It truly reflected in the effortless interactions with each other.
They seemed to enjoy the various locations we tried on this shoot. We were even fortunate enough to try a new church location that I had been scouting for years and finally was open.

I’ve recently become aware of the number of church locations I have used over the past few years. It’s rather sad to think that these places have fallen into disrepair in a country that politicizes and promotes Christianity to such an extent.
More hypocrisy? More symbolic content for me, that’s for sure.
Of course, we still used lots of great industrial backdrops that forms Detroits history.
With these places, we were fortunate to get some amazing graffiti’d backgrounds that blurred into a panoply of color. It was beautiful against their skin.
These guys were a wonderful. So relaxed and at ease with most everything on the shoot.
And the pics we produced were excellent. I look forward to another opportunity to drag these two to more fantastic locations!
